David Umahi, the Governor of Ebonyi state said through Chief Moses Ogodoali Nomeh, that the state government is set to disburse loans worth of three billion naira to farmers by the first week of April this year.
Chief Moses Ogodoali Nomeh who is the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural resources said only rice farmers and other agricultural products excluding cassava farmers are eligible for the loans.
In addition to that, those owing the state government in last year’s farming season would not benefit from this year’s farming season loan.
According to Ogodoali, loans will be given according to the capability of each farmer, with respect to how many hectares of land a farmer can cultivate.
“Government has mapped out three billion naira for this loan and it is already with Zenith bank, the form is free and we have 13 units collection point in the office for the form, which means each local government has an officer handling it.” Ogodoali said
Ogodoali adds “From next Monday we shall start processing of the forms.”
Land inspection, a guarantor and collateral are required for farmers collecting two million and above, but if less than two million, collateral would not be needed though having a guarantor is a must.
